Kaiser Health News: Court Ruling May Spur Competitive Health Plans to Bring Back Copays for Preventive Services

HCCI's research on ESI spending on preventive services was featured in an article in Kaiser Health News.

From the article: "Spending on ACA-mandated preventive services is relatively small but not insignificant. It is 2% to 3.5% of total annual expenditures by private employer health plans, or about $100 to $200 per person, according to the Health Care Cost Institute, a nonprofit research group."

The Affordable Care Act required that health insurers provide many medical screenings and prevention services at no out-of-pocket cost to health plan members. But insurers and employers may consider adding cost sharing for preventive services now that a federal court ruled the ACA’s mandate is unconstitutional.
